1. Noun priestly teacher; preceptor (trad. pronounced おしょう in Zen and Pure Land, かしょう in Tendai and Kegon, わじょう in Shingon, Hosso, Ritsu and Shin Buddhism)
2. monk (esp. the head monk of a temple); priest; head priest
